The initial household charge which began in 2012 and was for €100 per residential property with very little exemptions is now being targeted by the revenue for collection.

The charge was for €100 but if you have not paid the current charge has increased to €200 per property and this will only increase over time. The revenue have taken over collection of this charge and are cross checking their databases with properties that have been registered for the Local Property Tax. So people who initially refused to pay the 2012 household charge but then decided to register for the 2013 LPT charge are now getting letters looking for €200 per property for the original household charge.

You can make the €200 payment through the LPT section of www.revenue.ie using your PPS number, Property ID and your PIN number. Alternatively the revenue have stated that they will collect the charge by directly deducting it over a period of time from your wages.

If you believe that you may be exempt or have specific queries on the Household charge please visit www.householdcharge.ie for additional information.

Beware – Household Charge now to be collected by the Revenue
